Barbara Joyce (Lee) Hoyem was born October 9, 1934 in Billings, Montana, daughter of Richard and
Alyne Lee. She passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at her daughter’s home and had family with her through her final days.
She grew up in Billings and Livingston as the family moved as her Dad found work. She graduated from Park County High School in 1952. She married John H. “Jack” Hoyem on October 22, 1955.
They moved to the Clyde Park area and first lived with his folks in the country, which was new to a girl
who had mostly lived in town, but she grew to love spending time with Johnny at the ranch and in later
years they spent as much time as they could on their property in the Crazy Mountains, always taking their beloved cat Penny with them. They moved closer to Clyde Park and had two sons and two daughters.
Barbara is survived by her children; son, Kevin (Denise) Hoyem of Billings, grandson, Bryan (Flavia) Hoyem and great-granddaughter, Aryanna of Houston, Texas, grandson, Andrew Hoyem of Billings; daughter, Tami Hoyem, Belgrade, with whom she resided with the last few years, grandson, Jeff Hoyem of Bozeman; daughter, Wendy (Jeff) Swendseid, grandson, John and granddaughter, Sarah of Bozeman; and son, Todd Hoyem, of Helena and grandson Joe Hoyem of Missoula.
John and Barbara moved to Billings in 2005 because of his health problems where they resided until his death in 2014. She then moved in with her daughter Tami and lived her final years in Belgrade. Due to heart failure, Barbara couldn't get out and do as much physical activity after John passed and so began a love of coloring all kinds of pictures in coloring books and watching the news, so she always knew what was going on in the world. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Bozeman Health for their excellent care and compassion during her final days. Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and a family celebration of her life is planned for late summer at the cabin.
