Bob Lee Fastenau

July 27, 1963 — May 7, 2019

Bob Lee 'Fastbob' Fastenau, 55, of Livingston, Montana passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019; after a quick but valiant battle with cancer.Born July 27,1963, he moved as an infant with his family to Idaho. In 1979 he again moved with his family; Billings, Montana became his home, and he graduated from Billings Senior High in 1982. He found his talent in bodywork and restored his 68 GTO... twice. (long story; but check out 'GTO Crash' on YouTube). He married and had one son, Leland James Fastenau, who quickly became his fishing buddy and partner-in-crime. They had many adventures together. Bob started with Montana Rail Link in 1993 as a Switchman and began his Engineer training in 2002. At the time of his passing, Bob had 4 years, 2 months and 20 days until retirement, not that he was counting. Bob met his love, Krista Gindlesperger, in July of 2009 on the Yellowstone River through mutual friends. He and Lee joined her and her children Jessika and Chase in Livingston, and they began the process of blending their two families. There was nothing better than to have all the kids home and around the table for a family dinner. Bob and Krista exchanged rings and vows in Mazatlan Mexico in February of 2010, and their adventures began! They loved so many things together and had some amazing adventures! Floating/fishing/rockhounding on the river, cruising in the GTO (preferably with the top down) hunting and hiking. Their most favorite thing to do was to road-trip literally to nowhere. They would pack a bag, jump in the car, and decide at each intersection "left or right". Their two most memorable destinations were Carlsbad Caverns, NM and Deadwood, SD.Bob loved his family and would go out of his way to help a friend or family member in need. He could build or fix anything and was found many times at friends or family members' homes with his toolbox and beer. He was the envy of the neighborhood with his "putting green" yard, but his greatest accomplishment was designing and building his and Kristas family home, in between shifts at the railroad. More than once a sheriffs deputy would stop by the 'build site" at 4am wondering who was hammering at that hour of the morning. He finally offered his cell phone number for them to call before making a drive out of town.Bob was a man of integrity, he always wanted to make sure everyone else was taken care of. He loved his family, and he was looking forward to his retirement years. Bob you will be deeply missed.Bob is survived by his wife, Krista; son, Leland (Valentina) Fastenau (son of Marcella Scotson); step-daughter, Jessika Auger and step-son, Chase Auger. He is also survived by his mother, Jean Stroud Fastenau; sister, Kris (Mont) Fleharty; nephew, Mitch Fleharty; niece, Lacy (Loren) Bangert; niece, Charlee (Austin) McKay; and sister, Jackie and family. He loved playing with his great nieces & nephews: Tayla, Kalin, Lane and Ryder. Bob also had a close relationship with his father-in-law, Larry Gindlesperger, along with notable aunts, uncles and cousins from Idaho and Florida. He is preceded in death by his father, John "Jack" Fastenau. The family would like to thank the staff at Livingston Healthcare Hospital for their excellent care and compassion during this very difficult time.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cody Dieruf Benefit Foundation for Cystic Fibrosis.
