Dorothy Mae (Johnig) Eide

Dorothy Mae (Johnig) Eide, 87, of Livingston, Montana passed away suddenly of natural causes on Sunday, June 9, 2019. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.Dorothy was born in Roundup, Montana on August 9th, 1931. A coal miner's daughter, Dorothy was the third of four daughters born to William and Opal (Green) Johnig. She was raised in Roundup and attended school there. As a young woman a handsome man in his Navy blues caught her eye. It was love at first sight for both of them. On December 3rd, 1946, Dorothy was united in marriage to Harold Norman Eide.They began life together in Gage, MT where Harold worked in the oil field. It was there that they welcomed a daughter, Doreen Gaye. They would relocate to Roundup and then Fromberg where they purchased farmland and eventually welcomed a son, Guy Curtis. They ranched and had a hog operation. As Harold went to work with the railroad, Dorothy became not only mom, but a ranch hand. She raised chickens, tended to the animals and gardened. She worked off the farm too. As Harold would be laid off in the winters, she earned. Dorothy worked at a restaurant in Bridger, she was a grocery clerk in Fromberg and for many years taught special education and was a teachers assistant. She sometimes kept three jobs to provide for her family. She would also be elected as the President of the Fromberg School board for two terms.In 1978 she and Harold moved to Billings to be near their son, Guy. In 94 they followed Guy to Livingston where they made their home together until Harolds death on June 20, 2017. Guy and Harold had been building a home on Guys farm for Dorothy and Harold; after Harold passed Guy and Karen welcomed Dorothy to her new home where she was able to live the past two years.Dorothy was creative, artistic, dedicated, faithful, and most of all loving woman. She took classes in painting and became quite accomplished at it. She always loved her gardens and canning veggies, she canned up to 1000 quarts and pints per season. She had a cute 1979 baby blue Ford Thunderbird, she so enjoyed that car, the grandkids would cheer, "go granny go!" Dorothy was brave too; she decided to study and earn her G.E.D. later in life as she had stopped school when she was married. Her sister Leona was killed in a car wreck and she and Harold took two of her boys in, Donny and Johnny. She and Harold were known to be light on their feet as well, they would often be found round or square dancing the night away in their younger days.Above all else Dorothy will be remembered for her big heart. She gave love as much as she could and set an example for her children and grandchildren. She inspired kindness, caring and generosity, she encouraged others to follow their dreams, to push through rough times with a smile.She kept a clean home and was proud of that, she was an amazing cook, and at all times, was ready with something special for her grandchildren. Dorothys home was always full of love. Rest at peace Dorothy, we will hold you near in our hearts.Dorothy is survived by her children and grandchildren: daughter, Doreen Gaye Austin and her husband Terry, their children, Shawn Austin and his wife, Noel, their kids, Camden and Delia; Sharon Austin and her kids, Mercedes (who is expecting Dorothys first great-granddaughter), Brandon and Aliya; and Shanon Austin and her kids, Brittney and Angel; son, Guy Eide and his wife, Karen and their son, Cole Eide.
