Lela Mae Wolenetz, born and raised in Livingston, MT passed away Wednesday November 14, 2018 at her home in Bozeman, MT at the age of 93.
Following the death of her mother, she was raised for a time by her sister and graduated from Park County High School in Livingston in 1943. She married Monte Wolenetz in 1947 and lived the next 40 years in North Dakota and Minnesota. She traveled abroad extensively with Monte prior to his death in 1988 and continued to do so with friends and relatives. One noteworthy trip included a detour into East Germany to the site of the concentration camp Monte had helped liberate in World War II.
She moved to Bozeman in 1989, continuing to play bridge and golf, singing for a time in her church choir and later with the Soul Singers, volunteering at Deaconess Hospital and, for many years, delivering Meals on Wheels.
Independent and active to the end, she outlived nearly all of her lifelong friends and generational relatives. She is survived by her son, Mark (Diana) Wolenetz Berthoud CO, daughter, Linda Rumelhart University Place WA, Granddaughters Anna Parker Farmington NM and Jennifer Ho-Gland Levelland TX, grandsons Michael Wolenetz Haymarket VA, Matthew Wolenetz Snoqualmie WA, Jeffrey Lappin Longmont, CO, six great grandsons, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and brother-in-law, Jim Gramm. She especially valued her friends in Bozeman, including Shirley Gerhardt, Lucy Dwarshuis and Paul and Bev Matheson.
Donations to Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter in Bozeman would fulfill her wishes. And as she so desired, no further memorials are planned.
Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
