Leonard T. Burg

April 15, 1929 ~ April 17, 2019 (age 90)

Leonard T. Burg, 90, of Livingston, Montana was born on April 15, 1929 in Big Timber and passed away peacefully on April 17th, 2019 at Livingston Healthcare, just days after celebrating his 90th birthday with his family.

L.T. as his wife fondly called him for many years was the 4th child born to Thomas and Christina (Tangen) Burg of Big Timber and was later joined by a younger brother.  As a child Leonard was a rascally redhead. He joined the Army and served in the Korean War where he was wounded and held as a POW for a short time.  Leonard was awarded the Purple Heart for his war wounds.

After returning home he found the love of his life Kay Bryan in Big Timber where they both grew up.  They were married in Livingston and had recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.  After living in Phoenix Arizona for several years they moved back to Montana.  Here he began his long career with the Montana Highway Department helping build and maintain the state roads.  Leonard was a hard worker who enjoyed staying busy.

After retiring Leonard and Kay worked for Yellowstone Country Motors for quite a few years transporting vehicles.  They enjoyed traveling to visit family and helping with home improvement projects.  Leonard planned and built kitchen cabinets for Kay that still look as nice as the day he installed them 45 years ago.  Leonard enjoyed cooking Kumla (Norwegian potato dumplings), baking pies and cinnamon rolls. We all have fond memories of Sunday morning family gatherings for his Norwegian pancakes.  In the summer Leonard grew a garden and cared for his beautiful roses.  He was quite a tinkerer and always had some gadget he’d picked up at a yard sale that he was trying to repair.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers- Eugene “Gene” Burg, Alvin “Bud” Burg, Donald “Donnie” Burg and sister Alice Burg Hastings.

He is survived by his wife Kay, and sons, Phillip (Noreen) Burg and Cary (Diana Raimondo) Burg, all of Livingston, grandchildren, Kaleb Burg and Kenda Burg, great-grandchildren, Thea Burg and Kali Burg.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer, an announcement will be made closer to the date.
