Timothy Brent Gable

February 15, 1951 ~ December 14, 2019 (age 68)

Timothy Brent Gable passed away December 14, 2019 in Livingston, Montana, after a painful and courageous struggle with the complications of heart surgery, kidney disease, and diabetes. He was 68 years old.

Tim was born February 15, 1951 in Reading, PA to Dr. Joseph E. Gable and Dorothy (Wagner) Gable.  After graduating from Reading High School in 1969 where he excelled academically and, in several sports, he attended Boston University where he received both his BA and MA degrees.  After a brief stint managing the detox unit at Reading Hospital, Tim followed his love of books and got involved in the used and rare book business.

In 1985 Tim moved to Michigan to take a job managing the second Borders Book Shop in Southfield, Michigan for the Ann Arbor, Michigan based expanding chain of stores.  In 1992 he was recruited to be managing editor of the newly founded Clark City Press in Livingston, Montana. A few years later Tim decided to open his own bookstore, Books and Music, etc. in Livingston, which he operated for several years until he sold the business in 2007 to an employee.

Tim loved being a part of Livingston and involved himself in many community affairs, especially the civic theatre.  During the nearly 30 years he lived in Livingston, Tim made many life-long friends through his integrity, kindness, and generosity.  He will be remembered by many as having a big heart and often putting others before himself.  Tim always found comfort and beauty in the little aspects of life and was a simple man. He will be dearly missed by everyone, but none more so than his beloved animals.

Tim is survived by his two children, Caleb Gable (Carly Stickel), Chelsea Gable and grandson Bentley Baier, all of Livingston; his brother, Joe Gable, sister-in-law, Dominique Abed, and two nephews, Nicholas and Michael, all of Ann Arbor, Michigan; his nephew, Brian Gable; niece, Heather Sorge and their families of Marlton and Milford, New Jersey respectively; and a cousin, Marta Wagner of Washington, D.C.  Tim was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Fred.

Tim will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date, an announcement will be made closer to the planned date.
