Alice Jane (Kannegard) Wilson

March 11, 1935 — July 26, 2019

Alice Jane (Kannegard) Wilson, 84, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2019 at Livingston HealthCare. After suffering a stroke in 2011, Jane moved from her home in Wilsall and resided at Livingston Health & Rehabilitation Center. She lived life in the facility the best it could be and advocated for fellow residents by serving as a member of the Resident Council. Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. A celebration of Jane's life will be announced at a later date.Jane was born on March 11, 1935 to Raymond Andrew Kannegard and Dolly Mae McNamer. Jane was raised and helped on the family homestead in the Sedan area. She grew up in a saddle and spent her youth riding and exploring the northeast part of the Bridger Mountains. She told stories of the many adventures shared with her sisters in the range. Jane had a special fondness for the Fairy Lake area. She loved riding horses with her father, known as one of the last of the old-time cowboys, and was so proud of his 2014 induction into the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame. After graduating from Wilsall High School, Jane married her high school sweetheart, Edward James Wilson, and they were blessed with three children; Jay, Brad, and Vicky. At this point in her life, the family lived temporarily in towns across the state because of Ed's job with the Montana Department of Transportation. Jane maintained a permanent home base in Livingston, and the family spent many weekends at the Fred Wilson Ranch on the Upper Shields. She always tried to maintain a rural atmosphere for her family. Jane was not afraid of work to help support the family. When her children were old enough, she took many odd jobs in Livingston at Safeway, Jones Grocery, and Montgomery Wards. She was also an accomplished seamstress and gourmet cook. In the 1960s, her family moved to Wilsall, where she established life-long friendships. She owned and operated a small restaurant in town for a few years and worked for Tom's Store. Jane then began employment with the Wilsall School District and retired as head cook. Her homemade caramels and cinnamon rolls were, to those who got to sample them, the best. Not being one to sit still, Jane worked part-time at Glenn's Shopping Center. She was an outgoing person with a great sense of family and community and always volunteered to help someone in need--Jane never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.Jane is survived by her son, Brad Wilson (Sheila Royston) of Wilsall; daughter, Vicky Jo McAlister (Dave) of Canaan, New Hampshire; grandchildren: Mike Wilson, Chris Wilson, Melissa Wilson, Chelsea Wilson, Adam McAlister, and Beth Reese; great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces, and nephews.Jane is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jay, and sisters, Jo Brogan, Cleo Moore, and Shirley Pippy.Memorials may be made to Shields Rivers Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 327, Wilsall, MT 59086.Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
