Livingston

Bertha Amelia Roylance of Livingston passed away peacefully after a short illness on June 4, 2026. The Finnish concept of Sisu defined Bertha and her approach to life. She was a beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend and her presence will be missed.

Bertha was born on July 28, 1934, in Fromberg, Montana to Reino and Etha Keto. She joined three brothers who often referred to her as their favorite sister. Early in her life the family moved to Clyde Park where she grew up on Rock Creek and Cottonwood Creek. In 1950, she moved to Livingston with her parents. She graduated from Park High School in 1952 and attended one year of college at Montana State.

She married Harry Roylance on August 1, 195,4 at her parents’ house on Yellowstone Street. They moved to Harlowton in the late 1950s, their only child, Etha, was born while they lived in Harlo. The family moved back to Livingston in 1978.

Friends, family, and the community knew Bertha through her career as a loan officer at Sky Federal Credit Union and the many organizations she participated in including, 4H, Rainbow Girls, Amateur (Ham) Radio, numerous Masonic groups, the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and others. Her passion was supporting youth and young people.

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her brothers, Donald Keto, Donovan Keto, and Lee Roy Keto, sister-in-law, Beverly Keto and her parents.

Bertha is survived by her daughter, Etha Carruthers, son-in-law, Scott Carruthers, grandson, Andy Carruthers, and his wife Sherry Carruthers, brother Clarence Keto, sisters-in-law Yolanda Keto and Dixie Keto and several nieces and nephews.

Mom loved her garden and house plants. The family suggests you enjoy your garden or nurture a plant and think of her.

A graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston on Tuesday, June 9, at 1 p.m. Friends and family are invited to join us for a short service.
