Buck E. Shandy

Buck Earnest Shandy, age 84, of Clyde Park, died May 8, 2013 at his home. Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. No funeral service will be held in accordance with Buck's wishes. Buck was born on March 14, 1929, in Joliet, Carbon County, Montana. He was the son of Jay Byron and Millie Maud (Tucker) Shandy. Buck entered active military service in the United States Navy in March of 1946 at the age of 17, and served his country during the conclusion of WWII. Buck served in the South Pacific and was awarded the WWII Victory Metal. He received an Honorable Discharge in January of 1948. Buck left home at age 13. He went to work for ranchers where he was a horse wrangler and did green breaking for the US Army. On November 22, 1961, Buck was united in marriage to Barbara Van Oroen, with a civil ceremony in Livingston. They shared 51 years of marriage. Buck held a few different occupations over his life. He worked as a logger, did construction, was a mink farmer and worked as a rodeo clown for a short time. He most recently was employed at Burlington Northern Railroad as a Machinist. He retired in 1989. Buck had many hobbies and was very creative. He would collect stones and cut or chip them making jewelry and arrowheads, he would hand make leather bullet pouches, made belt buckles, he carved diamond willow canes and sticks. Bucks enjoyments were hunting, fishing, farming, flowers and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. Blessed be his memory. Buck is survived by his: Wife, Barbara Shandy of Clyde Park; Son, Charles Shandy and his wife, Debra of Livingston; Daughter, Crystal Travis and her husband, Tom of Livingston; Grandchildren, Justin Shandy and his wife Heather; Ryan Travis and his wife, Lindsey; Cory Davis and his wife Amanda; Great-grandchildren, Mathew and Reba Shandy; Skyler Travis; Taylor, Callie and Debra Davis; Sisters and Brother-in-law, Lillian Creech and her husband, Ernie of Napa, CA; Isabell Sanford of Helena; Glenda Chapman of Denver, CO; Numerous In-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Buck is preceded in death by his Parents, Jay Byron and Millie M. Shandy; Daughter, Cynthia Davis and her husband Orin; Brother, Russell M. Shandy; Sisters and Brothers-in-law, Ada Kilpatrick; Virginia Hardenbrook and her husband, Charles; Jenny V. Boger and her husband, Eugene; Brothers-in-law, Billy Sanford and Gerald Chapman. Arrangements under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral home and crematory in Livingston.
