CHARLES EUGENE AHRENSCharles Eugene "John" Ahrens passed from life on earth to his forever home with The Lord on December 20th, 2020 at 6:55 P.M. with his wife Karen of 62+ years and daughter Tina beside him.Chuck (Johnny) was born in Chetopa, Kansas (NW) corner next to Oklahoma. He was the first born son of John Eugene and Florine (Rogers) Ahrens. Johnny was soon followed by brothers Norman, Jimmy and Bobby. There were 5 years between John and Bob.He was raised in farming community between Kansas and Oklahoma. His schooling started in Oklahoma. The family headed for California in a Model A Ford. They settled in Southern California. The boys were schooled in California. Their father took a job as a Boy Scout Executive and all four boys took advantage of intense Boy Scouting experiences. Their parents separated; Dad and the boys moved to Fresno CA. Chuck went to Fresno High School but did not earn enough credits to graduate. The Principal said, "If you join the service, I will give you a diploma." So, he did!Johnny was in the Air Force from July 4, 1951 to July 3, 1955. He was an air traffic controller and transferred to many bases including a year in Alaska. He was honorably discharged.Johnny met the love of his life, Karen, at a prearranged place in Fresno CA in May of 1957. At their 3rd meeting he said, "When we are married, we will do--------." That was his proposal. She already loved him, and he loved her. Problem was, Karen was barely 17 and he was 23, their parents made them wait until Karen was 18. They were married February 1st, 1958. They stayed together until his passing to be with the Lord. His wife, Karen, and daughter, Tina were by his side with granddaughter Amanda (Calvin) and great-grandson Isaiah came later. His son, Robert Lance (Gwen); brothers, Norman (Diane), Jimmy (Pat), Mike (Debbie) Beighey and only sister, Karen Beighey long to be here but Covid prevented their travel. He is also missed and survived by grandchildren: Bradlee Ledford, Michelle (Michael) Pierce, Cheryl (Ranjt) Basi, Ryan Mayo; great grandchildren Isaiah, Elijah, Evan, Holly, Zoe, Romy and Braden.Charles had many talents and interests; Camellia grower, entering contests, boxing (High School), playing trumpet and guitar and some piano (By ear), drawing, singing in choirs and church, acting, school and churches, restored wooden boats and cars, Siamese cats, soft ball, working with plants and trees and when younger, weight lifting.His work usually entailed working the land as he had a degree in Ornamental Horticulture. However, it soon changed to management as those skills were recognized. Charles was always large and in charge.Chucks life took another turn in his late 30s and early 40s. He took more interest in church and then Bible studies. Soon he led Bible studies and memorized scripture. He started going to rest homes, prisons and on the streets sharing Jesus with everyone he met. He traveled with Karen on medical missions all over the world praying for the sick and seeking souls for Christ. His passion until his death was seeking souls for Jesus. He called himself Rev. Chuck, but his church did not have walls or denomination, just joy, peace, and love in knowing Jesus Christ our Lord.He will be missed by family and many friends here and all over the world. When Chuck was in his 70s he saw the need to help children abandoned on the streets of Cambodia. The Lord encouraged him to start an orphanage, so he did. He bought the land and built the buildings. It is run by a beautiful Christian family. Now the children and director are reaching out to the communities sharing Jesus a legacy to Chuck and to the Lord. Donations are accepted by Karen to continue this work.He was preceded in death by his brother Bob and all those older than him.
