On the evening of June 14th, Chuck passed away surrounded by his family.
Chuck was born in Sequoia National Park in California on July 31, 1932. He joined a brother Jim and sister Joanne, the third child of Daniel and Erma Tobin. Chuck spent his young years with his family in many western national parks. As Chuck was ready to enter high school, the family moved to Lassen Volcanic National Park. Chuck had to rent a room with a family to attend high school in Red Bluff, California. He loved football and skiing. Chuck did some ski patrol while in the area. High school was where Chuck met his future wife, Marilyn Woodward.
After high school, Chuck entered the army and spent 2 years there. He returned to the Lassen area and in 1954 married his soulmate Marilyn. He went to work for the National Park Service. Chuck and Marilyn lived in Lassen Volcanic National Park, Death Valley National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Chuck was a maintenance foreman, EMT and Safety officer.
Chuck and Marilyn raised three children Susan, Kelly and Jill. Most of their growing up years were here in Yellowstone. They were active in the Mammoth community, pot lucks, couples bridge, pinochle, St Patrick day, skiing at Undine, camping trips, and following their kids.
Chuck loved working for the National Park Service. He felt this was a great way to serve his country. Chuck was the 3rd generation of his family to work for the Park Service, His maternal Grandfather, His Father, Brother and himself, then his daughter- in-law and two grandchildren. Chuck was very proud of this.
Chuck and Marilyn retired to Livingston, Montana. Where they loved to drive around the state and see new areas or follow the grandkids to events. They taught their grandkids to play cards.. they loved to play games with them. Chuck loved to golf and had many happy hours at the Livingston Golf Course with his golfing buddies. Chuck worked with the Red Cross also.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Daniel (Erma) Tobin, brother Jim (Jean) Tobin, Sister Joanne (Tom) Bell, Son-in-law Barry MacGillivray
Chuck is survived by: His wife of 68 years, Marilyn, Children: Susan Branham, Kelly (Paula) Tobin, Jill MacGillivray. Grandchildren: Bryan (Jana) MacGillivray, Erika Tobin, Bodie Tobin, Sierra Branham, Demi Branham. Great Grandchildren: Darin Newman, Becky Newman, Sierra Newman, Luca Branham-McDonald. Great, Great Grandchild: RosaLeigh Morrison
A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall. In Lieu of flowers please send donations to Red Cross or National Park Foundation or any charity of your choice.
