Christopher William Macdonald

Christopher William Macdonald "Chris", age 69 of Livingston, Montana, passed away October 28, 2022, at Livingston Health and Rehabilitation. Chris was born in La Jolla, California, Monday September 28th, 1953, to parents Margaret and Clay Macdonald. He grew up in Del Mar, California and spent his teenage years sailing and fishing with his cousins.

After graduating high school, Chris pursued a career in commercial diving and was certified in scuba diving, underwater photography, underwater welding, as well as lightweight and deep-sea air and mixed gas diving. After obtaining certification, he lived and worked in Louisiana, servicing oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. After which, he traveled to Ireland to become an instructor in the operation of closed-circuit diving equipment.

Chris spent some time in England, where he studied with the Hare Krishna movement, and for a time lived in a mansion donated by George Harrison. Chris continued his spiritual quest with the Rosicrucians and then Church Universal and Triumphant, which brought him to Montana.

Chris worked in irrigation, concrete masonry, and construction at North Ranch near Trail Creek, Paradise Valley, and in Corwin Springs. One of his favorite projects throughout the years was a Buddhist Stupa.

Chris met Constance, the mother of his four children, in 1989 in Paradise Valley. They raised their children for several years off-grid in a home he built in the mountains. They eventually moved to Emigrant to raise their children.

Chris was a volunteer firefighter for North Glastonbury for many years. The department eventually merged with other local departments and became the Paradise Valley Fire Department. He was also a trained wildland firefighter and fought fires such as the Fridley Fire.

Some of Chris' passions included being a seeker of spiritual truth, art, architecture, and drumming. Chris is survived by his four daughters, and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 10th, 3:00 pm at Franzen-Davis Home in Livingston, MT.
