Dale F. Merrill

Dale “Beechnut” Merrill, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, August 8, 2023. Dale was born September 22, 1937, in Hot Springs South Dakota to Walter and Charlotte Merrill.  After graduating from high school, he moved to Kalispell MT to start working in a sawmill.

He met the love of his life, Marlene, when he was 24.  They married in 1962 and welcomed their son, Brian, in 1963.  They recently celebrated 61 years together.  Dale and Marlene moved around for work, and finally settled in Clyde Park in 1972.

Dale started his own logging business, Merrill Logging, early in his career.  Dale loved working in the mountains, enjoying the space and freedom to be his own boss.  Son, Brian, joined him forming M & M Logging, for several years.  Dale stayed in this profession until his near retirement, when he dissolved his company and began driving log trucks.

He will be remembered for his quiet good humor, devotion to his family and incredible work ethic.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, sister Evelyn and brother Wayne.  He is survived by his wife, Marlene Merrill, son Brian (Cheryl) Merrill, grandchildren Evan and Cidnee Merrill, great grandchildren Ollivia, Zayleigh, Alexandrea and Easton.

The family plans to have a private service at a later date.
