Ethel Magsig

Ethel M. Magsig, 96, of Livingston Montana passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015 at her home. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2015, 2:00 P.M. at Grace United Methodist Church (302 S 9th Street; Livingston) . A fellowship coffee hour will follow the service. Ethel was born in Buncombe County, NC on February 25, 1918. She was the daughter of Earl and Gladys Overmyer, and had an older brother, Elmer 'Tige' Overmyer. She was raised in Lindsay, Ohio, and attended schools there through high school. Ethel attended Taylor University in Upland, Indiana where she was on the womens basketball team. She has always loved basketball and faithfully followed the NBA games until her death. The San Antonio Spurs was her favorite team. In 1940 she married Lewis E. Magsig and they had two children, Linda and Phil. Lewie and Ethel lived in Wilmore, KY where he attended seminary, then lived in Michigan until moving to Montana in 1946. Ethel was actively involved and supported Lewie in his ministry in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, and then in the United Methodist Church. Ethel was hired by the general conference of the church to write a one-year curriculum of Sunday School lessons for children. She enjoyed the project and worked hard on it, but said she wasnt paid nearly enough! Ethel Lived by the motto she called "The Four Fs" which is a way of life she adopted as a young adult. The Four Fs are Faith, Family, Friends, and Flowers. She often mentioned that she had a good, fulfilled life and appreciated her many friendships. She regularly kept in touch with friends and relatives through letters, notes, and phone calls. She is remembered for her thoughtfulness and grace. Ethel loved her family dearly and was very supportive of them. She especially enjoyed following the activities of her 6 great grandchildren. Ethel is survived by her daughter Linda Rowley and her husband Kent of Livingston, granddaughters Lisa Hauk of Seattle, WA, Tanya (Paul) Calhoon of Livingston, Hailey (Stephen Duffy) Magsig of Oakland, CA, and Anna (Brien) Dodd of Seattle, WA, great grandchildren Ryan, Arynn, Trevor, Jack, Mason, and Oliver. Numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Tige, husband Rev. Lewis Magsig, and son Phil. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Livingston HealthCare Home Care and Hospice (504 S 13th Street Livingston, MT 59047) or Grace United Methodist Church (302 S 9th Street Livingston, MT 59047).
