Sister Irene Maria Quintana, went home to heaven on Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Edgewood Memory Care in Helena with her dear friends Miscese and Annie at her side. She was 87 years old.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2025 at St .Mary's Catholic Church in Livingston. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Livingston. A reception will immediately follow the interment at St. Mary's School.
Irene was born near St. Luis, Colorado. She was the 12th child of 14 siblings. When she was about 11 years old, Irene came to Livingston, Montana. Nellie and “Pappa Lee” Schwanke loved Irene and raised her as their daughter. After graduating Park High School, Irene became a Catholic Sister/Nun and was trained as a nurse. She served as a nurse in several locations including Lewistown, MT, Canada, and a children’s hospital in Arizona. She then returned home to Livingston to help and care for Lee and Nellie. She continued working as a nurse at the nursing home in Livingston, MT for years. Her lifetime work has always been loving Jesus and caring for others.
Irene is preceded in death by her parents and all 13 siblings including her dear sister Nellie and beloved brother Noberto. Irene’s strong faith was her life. She radiated the joy of Jesus Christ and loved all, but especially babies, children and dogs.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
