John F. Howard

Retired United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant John F. Howard, age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2025. A devoted father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend, John’s life was one of service, strength, and deep commitment to family and country.

Born on March 23, 1948, to Gilbert and Irene Howard, John was raised with the values of integrity, hard work, and patriotism that would define his life. He dedicated 20 years of his life to the United States Marine Corps. Following his retirement from the military, John continued his service to the community as an Orange County Marshal for another two decades.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol, with whom he shared a long and loving marriage filled with mutual respect and devotion. Together, they built a life centered on family, and community.

He is survived by his loving daughter Kimberly Villa and devoted son-in-law Hector Villa, of Livingston, Montana. John was a proud and involved grandfather to Christopher, Samantha, and Cierra, who brought great joy to his later years. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren, offering them guidance, humor, and unconditional love.

Those who knew John remember him not only for his decorated service and strong sense of duty, but also for his kindness, humility, and gentle spirit. Whether sharing stories from his time in the military, cheering on his grandchildren at school events, or offering a helping hand to neighbors and friends, John made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to be part of his life.
