John H. Morrell, of Islamorda, FL and Livingston, MT, died in his sleep May 14, 2026. He was 76 years old.
John was born in St. Petersburg, FL, but grew up in Wheaten, IL. After graduating high school he joined the Army in 1968 and served in Vietnam. After serving, John attended the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana where he completed Aviation School.
John married Nancy Gustason in 1972 and after graduating from college they moved to Roanoke, VA., where John worked at several aviation companies. They had two sons, John Robert and Robert Scott. Eventually, John got his dream job with Piedmont Airlines and they moved to Isalmorda, FL in the Florida Keys, where he could also pursue his love of fishing. After a few years Nancy and John divorced.
In 1985 he married his second wife, also named Nancy. In 2000, they went on a fishing vacation to Montana where they fell in love with the town of Livingston. They bought a vacation home and for many years spent their summers flyfishing in Livingston. They moved to Livingston full time in 2019.
John endured health issues for a few years and eventually succumbed to kidney failure.
He is survived by his sons, Johnny and Bobby, his wife Nancy and his dog, Barney.
He will be greatly missed.
