John "Pete" Curtis Clements III

June 4, 1951 — September 3, 2025

Clyde Park

Pete, a beloved brother and cherished uncle, passed away on September 3, 2025. He was 74 years old.

He was born on June 4, 1951, to John and Jessie (Scott) Clements in Springfield Illinois. He was one of 6 siblings and was a devoted brother to them all. He spent his early life in Springfield, moving to Montana in 1988.

A proud Vietnam veteran, John served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Marine Corps. His commitment to his fellow service members continued throughout his life. He was an active and dedicated member of the American Legion and a proud member of the Moose Lodge in Colstrip, Montana. He served with great pride as the Commander of American Legion Post 44 in Colstrip, Montana for several years.

After the passing of his sister Pam in Colstrip, Pete moved back to Clyde Park to rejoin the rest of the family.

Pete was a man of compassion and intellect. He spent his career as a teacher and social worker, also doing random jobs to remain active, even in retirement. He touched countless lives with his guidance, support and good humor. He was a supportive friend and was always happy to help out in both good and bad times.

He found great joy in simple pleasures, often having a drink with friends or “cocktail hour” with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed going to his nieces’ sporting events and was one of their greatest fans. His dogs were his loyal companions, and he loved spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings John II, Richard, and Pamela.

Pete is survived by his sister, Pat Hughes, and brother Ted Clements, along with many nieces and nephews who he considered to be ‘his kids’.

The family is planning a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Legion, or Stafford Animal Shelter in Livingston MT.
