Joyce Sarrazin was born at Mrs. Robinson’s (the midwife) house in Livingston on July 10th, 1934. She ended her time here on September 8, 2024, at the age of 90. Her parents were Raymond and Bessie (Conrow) Shadoan. She had two older sisters Betty and Edith. Joyce attended grade school in Livingston, Junior High in Malmborg School. Her freshman year Joyce had a special permit to drive her Oldsmobile from her dad’s sawmill on Green Mountain to school. During the summers in high school, she would spend time with her Aunt and Uncle Paul and Millie (Conrow) Asher in Paradise Valley on their ranch. She lived with Babe and Irene White during her Junior and Senior years. Joyce graduated from Park High School in 1952 and worked at a drugstore for $100 a month.
One Saturday she took some friends to the Clyde Park Tavern for a dance where she met a young cowboy by the name of Jimmy Sarrazin. After a courtship of dances, rodeos, and John Wayne movies they were married on November 29th, 1952 in Livingston. At that time Jim was leasing a place from Jerome and Mary Schurrer, on the north edge of Clyde Park. So they traded some bred heifers to Edgar Logan for a house in Clyde Park, and set up housekeeping. In 1959 they bought the Schurrer place and moved up the road a quarter mile and have lived there ever since. When they lived in Clyde Park they had two sons, Terry born in August of 1953 and Bill born in May of 1957.
Joyce was a member of Park County Pioneers Society, Park County Cattlewomen, and Shields Valley Old Settlers Committee. She was honored by being named Grand Marshal of the 2022 Shields Valley Old Settlers parade. She enjoyed her bible study group and playing bridge and pinochle. She was the official US Weather service rain recorder, for many years. She was a member of St. Margaret’s church in Clyde Park for over 70 years, serving as ladies auxiliary treasurer most of that time. She was also the one to go to for burning permits in the Clyde Park area.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, her parents and sisters Betty Tinsley and Edith Miller Jacques. She is survived by her son Terry and Cyndi (Bowers) of West Burlington, Iowa, and son Bill and Lori (Bailey) of Clyde Park.
