June Lavon Phillips (Gibby) passed away peacefully, July 30th, 2026, at The Bozeman Springs Memory Care facility at the age of 94.
June was born November 30, 1931 to Weaver Gibby and Frankie Eva Brown-Gibby; she was the middle of eight siblings. She received her education in Springdale, Livingston and Big Timber, graduating from high school in 1949. She then moved to Livingston and worked as a steno-clerk for the Northern Pacific Railroad.
On May 14, 1950, she married Kenneth Skaarland of Big Timber. They shared two daughters, Candice (Parks) and Janet Skaarland. They later divorced. June married John Phillips in 1987. She enjoyed a thirty year career at the Livingston Public Library, retiring as head librarian in 1994.
Her passions were music, theater, the arts, traveling and reading. She enjoyed volunteering- library, community concerts and church work. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed teaching others her skills.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.
She is survived by her brother, Dale (Penny) Gibby and sister, Dean Nelson, her daughters, Candy (Tim) Parks, and Janet Skaarland, grandchildren, Andrew Weamer, Heather Parks, Kolter (Emily) Cherry, and great-grandchildren, Holden, Harper, and Lainey Cherry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial will take place at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Christikon Lutheran Bible Camp, 1108 24th St. W, Billings, MT 59102.
