Kirk Davis Walton

June 22, 1930 — December 26, 2023

Wilsall

Kirk Davis Walton, age 93, completed his final journey to be with his Lord and Savior on December 26, 2023, from complications with COVID at the Livingston Healthcare with family at his side.

Kirk was born June 22, 1930 to Henry and Marie (Kirk) Walton in Livingston.  He joined his sister Helen at the family ranch on Cottonwood Bench.  During the great depression his father’s ranch was foreclosed upon forcing them to leave the state for work.  In 1936 they were able to return to Montana.  His mother taught at many country schools.  Kirk was Marie’s student at several schools and he learned the art of story telling from her.

After graduating from Park High School in Livingston he went on to attend Montana State College in Bozeman.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts.

Kirk had long career in the military.  He served in the Korean War, and was called to active duty while in the Army Reserves. Kirk retired after 35 years as a Lieutenant Colonel.

In 1951 Kirk married Colleen (Wallace) to which 3 girls were born.  Colleen passed away leaving Kirk with very young children.  Later he married Bernice (Anderson Lord).  Bernice’s son and daughter completed the family.

Kirk also had a 30-year career with Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroad.  He worked his way up the ranks to retire as Assistant Superintendent in Nebraska.

Bernice and Kirk started their retirement years at Smith Creek, North of Wilsall, and later moved into Wilsall to spend their remaining years.

Kirk was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice, sister Helen Bechtel and stepson Garry Lord.

Survivors include stepdaughter, Kathy Lord, daughters, Beryl (Doug) Garcia, Noreen (Phil) Burg, Leslie (Dean) Bouchard, 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

We will miss his sharp memory, endless stories, quick wit, quirky poems and limericks.

The Lord blessed him to be able to remain in his home and community to the end.  He said he lived a GOOD long life.
