Mona Humphrey (nee: Hetzer) of Bozeman, MT passed away on July 24, 2026. You could not find a more humorous or adorable human being than Mona on this planet. There have been many tears shed and less laughter after her passing. To know Mona was to love her. You were always left chuckling at her quick wit and engaging company, neither of which faded even into her last days at 97½+ years old.

  1. Mona was outgoing, charming, and always provided for good conversation. She was open to help in any way she could and her generous, large heart will continue to touch people well after leaving this earth. She loved the company of neighbors, friends, all dogs, and was an avid bird-watcher. Mona enjoyed needlework and crocheting for others, contributing numerous hats and afghans for newborns and patients requiring cancer care. With a good musical ear, she enjoyed playing the piano and dulcimers. She was an avid reader with a very special love of poetry. Even at 97½+ she could recite Robert Burns by heart. One poem in particular was her favorite, and an apt philosophy to take away in life:

  2. “O would some Power the gift give us
  3. To see ourselves as others see us!
  4. It would from many a blunder free us,
  5. And foolish notion:
  6. What airs in dress and gait would leave us,
  7. And even devotion!”

Mona knew to not sweat the small things, striving to keep a positive attitude throughout. The joy she brought will be sorely missed by all she left behind. She was preceded in death by her husband Neil, son John, mother Leona Schmidt, father James Hetzer, sisters Jean Anson, Barbara Dowdall and Terry Schmidt.

She is survived by her children Keith (wife Rene) and Lee, as well as, five grandchildren with their respective spouses, two dearly loved-great grandchildren, a sister Elaine Smith, sister-in-law Jeanne Tomsen, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Highgate staff for their generous gifts of service, relationship and entertainment.
