Raymond Sam Alt, 77, of Livingston, passed away on Monday, June 4th, 2018 at his home with his loving family at his side.Raymond was born on October 18, 1940 in Livingston. He was the son of Roy and Ethel (Skillman) Alt, pioneers of the Livingston community. He received his education in Livingston and graduated from Park County High School class of 1961.On August 2, 1964, Ray was united in marriage to Harriet Takenaka. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter, Reesa and a son, Mark.Ray worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and his travels led him to many places in the west, including Alaska. In 2000, Ray retired and he and Harriet spent their winter months in Arizona. It was here that they enjoyed many hours exploring the desert on their side-by-side and collecting rocks.Growing up Ray became passionate about bow hunting, finding a special interest in sheep. In 1968 the first ram he shot with is bow won the third Ishi award ever presented. This ram held the world record for close to twelve years.Ray was passionate in everything he did. His quest for a Grand Slam of North American Big Horn Sheep was fulfilled in 2015 and he was honored with the Grand Slam Club Ovis award presentation.Ray was a man of many talents. He will be most remembered for his flint-knapping abilities. He was always eager to teach and demonstrate the art of chipping a rock into an arrowhead. His favorite pastime was sitting out at his rock pile, and chipping rock with his friends.Ray is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Harriet; daughter, Reesa of Livingston; son, Mark, of Mead, CO; his furry friend, Rosie; brothers, LeRoy (Beverly), Robert, and Dale (Claudia). Along with numerous nephews and nieces other relatives and many friends.At Raymond's request a formal service is not planned. A celebration of his life will be held sometime next summer.Arrangements are under the care of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Livingston.
