Adeline Moulton, age 95, of Gardiner, Montana passed away peacefully on January 15, 2020 at her home. A celebration of life service, in honor of Adeline, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, Jan. 20 at the Gardiner Community Church, viewing will be available from 10:00 A.M until the time of the service at the church. Reception will follow the service and burial will then take place at the Mountain View Cemetery in Livingston.
Adeline was born on November 19, 1924 the only child of Walter C. and Wilhelmine Marie (Hedwig) Moulton. At the age of two Adeline’s father passed away. The family moved to Fergus Falls, MN where her mother’s family lived. When Adeline turned five her dad’s brother, Rueben, invited her and her mom to move to Gardiner to reside with him and his son, Robert (Bob). Following Adeline’s graduation from Gardiner High School Hedwig married Rueben.
Adeline attended business college in Great Falls for a year before she was hired on with the Texas Oil Company in Cascade, MT. She worked with them for about a year until returning to Gardiner. Back home she started working for the Park Concessioner (now Xanterra) where she served many senior executives as their executive assistant for 44 years. Her family owned a wheat farm outside of Scobey which Adeline continued to lease out and continues to own the farm to this day.
Addie J., Adeline’s niece, went to live with Adeline when she was 13. Adeline was the mother figure that Addie so needed. In retirement Adeline was ready to go. She tagged along with Addie Wickham and her husband Phil and their children camping, traveling, going to sporting events and on all the holidays. She made the rounds to football and basketball games all over the state. She was the quintessential Gardiner Bruins fan. She enjoyed and was proud to give of her time for the community. She participated in the Star Reading program for the elementary students until her macular degeneration forced her to stop.
One of her greats joys was participating with the Coffee Clash group. She cherished her community friends and church community. In 1996 she had a new home built in which she had a “Yellowstone Room” designed so that she could display all the memorabilia she collected through the years.
Another Gardiner icon lost, but our blessings are many as Adeline made Gardiner a better place every day.
She is survived by: her niece, Addie (Phil) Wickham of Gardiner, their children, son, Robert (Krystyn) Wickham and their twins, Mitchell and Ashlyn all of Havre; daughter, Megan Wickham of Dillon; further nieces, Jennie Esp Sherwood of Portland, OR; Heather Esp Williams of Portland, OR; Becky Esp (Tom) Vandersnick of Great Falls; and Tam Tandy of Gardiner; many grand-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Hedwig Moulton, her mother’s husband Rueben Moulton; her stepbrother, Robert “Bob” Moulton and his son, Mitchell Moulton.
