Charles Bruce "Charlie" Nelson
On the evening of July 17th, 2020, Charles Bruce "Charlie” Nelson, 55, of Livingston passed away peacefully in his home after a very short but aggressive battle with stage 4 lung cancer.
Charlie was born February 1, 1965 in Red Lodge to Jesse & Lillian (Sheckles) Nelson. He grew up and went to school in Laurel, MT with all his brothers and sisters, where he was one of nine children in his family.
In Bruce's younger years, he was known for working hard and for arm-wrestling. He went on to join the army with two of his brothers. Oh, the stories we would hear about those days! After returning from the army, Charlie worked mostly in construction.
Right around that time, Bruce met his former wife, Michelle. The two got married and had 3 children but eventually parted ways which is when he made his way to Livingston.
Aside from being known as a dedicated and hardworking jack-of-all-trades, many knew Charlie as a caring, tell-it-like-it-is, problem solving friend. His children and grandchildren were his absolute pride and joy.
Days after Charlie's 55th birthday, he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. While we had high hopes of treatments working, unfortunately it was too tough on Charlie. During the last months of his life, Charlie was surrounded by his children and grandchildren who traveled to be with him around the clock to care for him.
Charlie is survived by his 3 children, Tiffany (Jeremy) Peterson, Steven Nelson and Melissa Nelson, all of Billings. He is also survived by his brothers, Don (Linda) Nelson, Bob (Theresa) Nelson, Brad (Amy) Nelson all of Laurel, Tim (Cora) Nelson and Jesse Nelson of Billings and also his sisters, Darlene Nelson of Billings and Kathy Burgener of Bearcreek. Charlie is also survived by his 4 grandchildren (Katarina age 10, Kyla age 9, Natalia age 6, and Zayden age 3.) He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Also survived by many amazing friends in the Livingston area. Charlie was preceded in death by his brothers, Terry and Jeff, as well as his parents.
Dad, we are so glad we got to spend one more 4th of July with you, we know it is your favorite! Save us all a dance. We miss and love you.
A memorial celebration will be held at the American Legion in Livingston on Friday, July 31st from 3pm-5pm with a little more formal presentation around 4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his children to finish paying end of life expenses.
We miss and love you so much, Dad!
