Dick Lee Eggar

March 13, 1937 ~ July 7, 2020 (age 83)

Dick L. Eggar, 83, of Livingston, Montana passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at his home, with the love of his family at his side.  A Celebration of Life gathering will be held 3:00 P.M., Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the American Legion, 112 North B Street.

Dick was born on March 13, 1937 the son of Harold and Charlotte (Giddian) Eggar. Dick was one of three children.  Dick received his education in Livingston.  He served in the US Army during the 1950’s.  He married Rosemary Marble on December 28, 1955, they were blessed with three children, Lorie, Joseph and Danny.  Rosemary passed away on April 16, 2004.

Dick was employed by the Burlington Northern railroad, retiring after 20 years.  He then went to work for RY Timber in Livingston as a security guard.

Dick became reacquainted with a childhood friend, Iva Miller.  They spent many happy hours fishing and camping; they were married December 14, 2010.  They bought a place in Townsend so that Dick could be close to the fishing at Canyon Ferry Reservoir.  Three years ago, they moved to Livingston to be closer to family.

Dick was an accomplished musician and attended every fiddlers gathering he could, playing his mandolin.  He spent a great deal of time out at Doc Allison’s jamming with the other fiddlers. He was a funny guy who enjoyed razing his friends and family. He was devoted to his family but more than anything the fish in Montana have one less master fisherman after them.

Dick was a member of the Senior Citizens in Livingston, American Legion in Townsend, Montana State Old Time Fiddlers and a charter member of the Upper Yellowstone Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited.

Dick is survived by  his wife, Iva; daughter, Lorie (Greg) Whiting, sons, Joseph Eggar and Danny Eggar; step-children; Jessie (Mark) Sumner, Verna (John) Hulit, Carmen (Rick) Meckle and Coni Rogers; brother, Dude Eggar and sister, Donna O’Connor.  He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Rosemary; his parents; an infant son, Ricky and granddaughter, Heather Whiting.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Upper Yellowstone Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited to benefit “Kid’s Day.”
