Livingston

Richard L. “Dick” Flynn, 89, of Livingston passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2022.

Dick was born in Glendale, California on March 13th, 1933, to Howard and Anna Flynn.  He served in the US Marines as an air control operator 2nd Lieutenant and after being honorably discharged, attended Stanford University and graduated with honors in Political Science. Dick attended a Dale Carnegie course in the mid 70’s, and he did so well in the course that the executive program director asked Dick to become an instructor.  This served him well when in 1978 he changed careers and moved his family to Sunriver, Oregon, where he enjoyed over 30 years as a successful Realtor/Broker for Sunriver Realty.

In 1959 when Dick was working in Los Angeles for Xerox, he had a client named Helen who worked for Jenkins Paper Company.  Helen was so intrigued with Dick’s kind voice over the phone, she insisted that he meet her daughter Barbara!  Upon their first date, Dick and Barbara realized that they were meant for each other and on April 16, 1960, they were wed in Palos Verdes, CA. Dick and Barbara enjoyed over 62 years of marriage, had three children and four grandchildren.

Dick had a love of all-things trivia; he was always the guy you wanted on your team whether playing Jeopardy or Trivial Pursuit.  He possessed a great sense of humor and loved to hear and tell jokes or funny stories.  He always enjoyed meeting new people in his journeys through life and with his exceptional memory made everyone he met feel special.

Dick and Barbara spent many happy years in Central Oregon, and always wanted to retire and live their lives out in Montana.  They retired to Kalispell, MT, where they enjoyed a wonderful group of friends, a wonderful church community and loved their views of the surrounding mountains.  In September 2018, they relocated to beautiful Livingston, MT to be near family and enjoy all of the beauty that Livingston has to offer.

Dick’s wonderful presence is very missed by his wife Barbara, his children and grandchildren and his best dog pal Riley.  Dick is survived by his loving wife Barbara Flynn of Livingston, MT, daughter Kelly Flynn of Livingston, MT, daughter Karen Greathouse and her husband Neal of Tucson, AZ, son Kevin Flynn and wife Suzanne of Bozeman, MT and grandson Liam Flynn of Portland, OR, grandson Braeden Greathouse of Denver, CO, grandson Garrett Greathouse of Billings, MT, and granddaughter Lily Flynn of Bozeman, MT.

Dick’s final wish was to be cremated so the family will plan a private celebration of life when everyone can be together.

Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
