Robert H. Smith

October 12, 1932 — April 19, 2023

Robert H. “Bob” Smith passed away unexpectedly at Livingston HealthCare on April 19, 2023.  Bob was born October 12, 1932 in South Heart, North Dakota to Peter N. and Magdelen Billman Smith.  A visitation will be held Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. followed by a vigil at 5:00 p.m. at the Franzen-Davis Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, May 26, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Livingston.  Rite of committal will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Bob was drafted in 1954 to serve in the US Army during the Korean conflict mainly stationed in Germany.  He was honorably discharged in 1956.  He was proud to serve his country.

Bob married Rosella “Rose” Owen in Glendive, Montana on May 14, 1960. They became proud parents to Ron and Rosanna.  Bob and Rose resided in Glendive with Bob working the oil fields and several gas stations.  They moved to Livingston in June of 1967.  In Livingston, Bob worked at several more gas stations and Whiting Motors where he serviced cars, trucks and RV’s.  In 1973 Bob went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a machinist.  When BN left Livingston he did odd jobs, worked for the school system and John’s IGA.  He then worked for MRL from 1987 to 1995 when he retired.

One of the joys in Bob’s life was decorating his yard each year for Christmas.  Many people made special trips to pass by his yard to see his wonderland.  He thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard.  Another joy was dancing, he loved to dance!  A special part of the past two years was having breakfast with his granddaughter, lovingly known as his “shadow”.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Rose; his parents Peter and Magdalen; sisters and brothers, LaVerne Luptak, Georgie Pedeliski, Buddy Smith and Buster Smith;  sister-in-law, Mari Owen, brothers-in-law, Smokey Owen, Louie Schlosser, Peter Pedeliski and Peter Kuntz; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Cecil Ode and Mary Owen; niece Shelly Schlosser and nephew Bobby Pedeliski.

Bob is survived by his daughter Rosanna Keegan and her children Drew and Kaycee and his son Ron. He is also survived by his sisters Janice Schlosser and Mary Kuntz and his sister-in-law Delores Smith; several nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
