We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory
Shawn Iver Chapel, 60, of Livingston, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2022, entering eternal life with his Lord, with the help of Mary, the Blessed Mother, after a struggle with cancer.
Shawn was born on November 21, 1961, in Livingston, to Ronald and Sharon Chapel. He moved with his family to California in 1968. After High School he worked as a Maintenance Engineer and Manager of Care West Nursing Facility in Burlingame, California. He later went into the trades as a painter and started a contractor/painting business, “Quality Painting”.
Shawn moved back to Livingston in 2007, when he started his contractor/painting business, Quality Painting, and beautified many homes in Livingston, Bozeman and the Park County area. He was a consummate professional with excellent skills and loved his work.
Shawn was always actively involved in adult men’s fast pitch baseball leagues in California and Montana. He played short stop and second base. His team in Livingston was the Cub’s and his number was #23. He played until age 55.
He was an avid golfer and a member of the Livingston Golf Club. He enjoyed his work and a good game of golf with his friends. He made time to golf with all four of his nephews even though they lived quite a distance away. During a recent trip to California, he loved spending time with family and friends and visited several golf courses and golfed with 3 of his nephews. Shawn was actively involved in a Livingston Men’s group and spoke fondly of his friends there and will be dearly missed by them.
Shawn was a huge sports fan and always loyally followed his favorite teams: The SF 49ers, The SF Giants, and the Golden State Warriors. He enjoyed attending the 49ers wild card game this January, with Gary Fitzpatrick, a lifetime friend in California and his team won!
Shawn loved fishing and rafting and jumping in the Yellowstone River. He loved that his grandfather, Arvid Bredberg was chairman for the annual Livingston Trout Derby back in the 1960’s. Fishing was a lifelong love of Shawn’s, starting at age 2, often fishing with his father and grandfather.
Shawn’s family and friends enjoyed his playful nature. He loved spending time with his friends and family and provided much laughter. He was a lot of fun to spend time with, and they enjoyed playing with him many of his favorite games like Cribbage, Pinochle, Corn Hole, board games and Strike Out. He organized 4th of July celebrations with family and friends. A favorite past time of his was to go out the Truck Stop for coffee and listen attentively to his relative Larry Chapel’s animated, fun life stories, and who preceded him in death a few years ago.
Family and friends, whom he loved very much and was very dedicated to, are important to Shawn, and he is a very loyal and gracious friend, brother, uncle, and nephew. He especially loved his mom and Dad and missed them dearly. He has a big heart, and he was always there to reach out and help when needed. We will miss him dearly. May Shawn rest in peace.
Shawn leaves behind two daughters, Myriah Fernandez and Rose Gargan; three sisters, Pam Funcke, Kathy Chapel, and Kathi Miller; five nephews and one niece, John Larricq, Jason Miller, Charlie Miller, Sarah Ponifkoff, Brett Funcke, and Zach Funcke; two uncles, Tom Butcher and Greg Butcher; his dad’s widow, Caroline Chapel; and so many dear friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held for Shawn Tuesday, June 14th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Livingston. A reception will follow the service at church. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements
