William Duncan Hagemeyer "Duncan"

February 15, 1947 ~ August 3, 2020 (age 73)

William Duncan Hagemeyer,73 of Emigrant, Montana passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020.

Duncan was born in Nashville, Tennessee to Harold William and Sarah (Cherry) Hagemeyer. He attended Litton High School and served as president of the student council in his senior year. Following graduation, he attended Lipscomb University, the University of Tennessee and served in the Tennessee Air National Guard.

Duncan began his professional career as a commodities broker working for McCandless Co.  Duncan later founded Agmark, Inc., a grain brokerage and merchandising company. Subsequently he and his brother, Richard, would go on to co-found Agmark Intermodal Systems and Agmark Logistics.

Duncan’s love of the West prompted early retirement from active management of Agmark when he moved to Montana. He loved everything about Montana life.  He particularly loved the people and their lifestyle.  His many friends considered him one of the more unique people they had ever met.

Duncan was an idea person who always looked forward.  He believed in everyone and he believed everyone had their own personal greatness.  Often, he prompted his associates to reach for heights beyond what they considered possible and he would help those who tried.  He loved hiking anywhere and sailing in the Caribbean.  Cooking food and a fine cocktail with friends were his pleasure.  Business was a passion.  Most recently he and his life companion Mary Hagemeyer started the Ashling Ranch, a seasonal vacation rental business. He also faithfully served on the Board of Directors for Livingston HealthCare.

Duncan is survived by his friend, companion and partner, Mary Elizabeth “MB” Hagemeyer; his brother and business partner, Richard Hagemeyer and his wife, Carole of Nashville, TN and their sons, Evan (Morgan) Hagemeyer, their sons Hal and Lowell, and Eric; and by his sister and health caretaker through his long medical ordeals, Nancy Crooks and her husband Bill, their children, Emily (Sean) Smith, their children Zoe and Asher, and Nolan (Alisha) Crooks.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his dog Belle, whom he lost earlier this year.

A private memorial to honor Duncan will be held at a later date.
